Location: ECEAP Program
Hours: 8 Hours per day, 180 Days per year
*Those who do not have 30 college quarter credits in Early Childhood Education or possess a valid Washington State Teaching Certificate with an endorsement in Early Childhood Education (Pre-K-Grade 3) or Early Childhood Special Education will be paid at Level 1 (minimum starting wage $19.62) until requirements are met and documentation turned in to Human Resources.
JOB DESCRIPTION
The Para educator will work successfully as part of a team of early childhood educators to provide developmentally appropriate experiences for three and four-year-old children in a preschool setting and visit families as per program design.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Successful experience pertinent to direct involvement with low income families, a high school diploma or equivalent and one of the following:
- An associate or higher degree with the equivalent of 30 college quarter credits in Early Childhood Education. These 30 credits may be included in the degree or in addition to the degree.
OR
- A valid Washington State Teaching Certificate with an endorsement in Early Childhood Education (Pre-K-Grade 3) or Early Childhood Special Education.
OR
- If the best candidate for the position does not meet the above qualifications, the candidate must have a minimum of an AA degree OR 72 quarter hours OR 48 semester hours of college level classes as proven by an official transcript OR have passed the Paraeducators ETS test as proven by an ETS transcript. The candidate must then commit to a Professional Development Plan (PDP) to fully meet the qualifications of the position within 5 years of date of hire.
- Must attach unofficial transcript proving AA degree or equivalent to application. Official transcripts of all levels of education, including high school, required within 30 days of hire.

- Must be able to meet the Physical Demands of the position.
- Must pass a basic skills test.
- Completion of Safe Schools Web Based Training within 30 days of hire and yearly thereafter.
- Must pass a background check, which includes employee paid fingerprinting.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
- Must have reliable transportation, produce a clean driving record as provided on a driving abstract and hold a valid Washington State Driver’s License and valid automobile insurance in order to make visits to families.
- Knowledge of the principles and stages of early childhood development and early childhood curriculum; knowledge of early literacy development and strategies to enhance literacy development.
- Positive evaluations and recommendations.
- Excellent attendance, punctuality, and dependability
- Must be able to meet the physical demands of the position
- Must complete a one-step Mantoux tuberculosis (TB) skin test.
- Must obtain current First Aid/CPR card and Food Handler’s card issued by the Benton/Franklin Health District within 30 days of employment.
- Must uphold board policies and follow administrative procedures.
- Must take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
- Must attend in-service trainings or other meetings as required, as well as attend any training as directed by management.
- Evidence of ability to assess and correct issues involving safety.
- Evidence of ability to establish and maintain a tactful, cooperative and effective relationship with students, parents, staff, fellow employees and management.
- Evidence of ability to approach assigned work in a professional manner, working toward the common goal of teamwork, pride in service delivery and continuous improvement
- Must demonstrate sufficient command of the English language to communicate verbally and in writing with students, parents, district staff members and other concerned people regarding all aspects of their job related activities.
- Must be able to use basic computer programs to maintain records, enter timecard information and read and respond to email.
- Accountable for personal daily schedule; able to maintain weekly plans, logs and records.
- Must be able to meet all ECEAP Performance Standards and deadlines required by Department of Children, Youth, and Families.
- Willingness to make home visits on a flexible schedule in order to meet the diverse needs of qualifying families regardless of ethnicity, income, religion, creed, and sexual orientation.
- Able to work as part of a team with parents and other ECEAP staff.
- Evidence of excellent attendance, punctuality, and dependability; evidence of ability to be self-disciplined and a self-starter.
- Positive evaluations and recommendations that support character and work ethic.
- Demonstrates self-discipline and is a self-starter.
QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED
- Understanding of ECEAP and DEL standards.
- Bilingual English/Spanish skills.
- Current successful experience working with bilingual and low income ECEAP children and families.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- To develop, coordinate, and implement developmentally appropriate activities for children and families in the classroom and in the home.
- To establish goals with parents that produce outcomes based on children’s individual strengths, needs, and interests.
- To make home visits with eligible families when needed, providing parenting information and assisting families in setting SMART goals.
- To select and maintain materials according to ECEAP Standards and policies and KSD policies.
- To assist with parent and community volunteers in the classroom.
- To reinforce parents as the primary teacher of their children.
- To plan and select appropriate tasks to meet individual children’s and families’ needs.
- To maintain documentation of program records such as lesson plans, home visits, child and family assessment and referrals.
- To act as a liaison between families and community and health support services.
- To participate in all staff development opportunities (could include evening or weekends).
- To assist with childcare during evening parent meetings and workshops.
- To submit all concerns to ECEAP supervisor and assist in referrals as needed.
- To communicate regularly with ECEAP staff to insure provision of comprehensive services to qualifying families/children.
- To report child neglect/abuse to proper authorities in accordance with the Kennewick School District policy and ECEAP procedures.
- To respect and maintain the policy of confidentiality according to program, FERPA, and KSD policy.
- To participate in the required assessments, evaluations, and data collection.
- To practice principles of health and safety for young children and families as per ECEAP standards and KSD policies; to serve family style meals and assist in clean up
- To perform all duties of the position within the scope of ECEAP and Kennewick School District policies and procedures, including regular attendance and punctuality.
