Hours: 7 hours per day (Monday-Friday 7:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.), 181 days per year
Employee is expected to work summer school for an additional 14 days
Salary: $21.70 - $24.38 DOE
This is an off-schedule (Non-Bargaining) position.
JOB DESCRIPTION
The Welding Assistant will assist in the planning, coordinating, and operation of the Tri-Tech Welding program. This position will work jointly with the Tri-Tech Welding Instructor in supervising and monitoring skill development of the Welding students. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
- High School graduate.
- Must present transcripts of highest level of education within thirty (30) days of hire.
- Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Must be able to meet the Physical Demands of the position.
- Must pass a basic skills test or show verifiable evidence of ability to perform the essential functions of the position.
- Completion of Safe Schools Web Based Training within thirty (30) days of hire and yearly thereafter.
- Must pass a background check, which includes employee paid fingerprinting.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
- Formal welding training in shielded metal arc and gas metal are welding processes
- Minimum of 2 years work experience as a welder
- Possess a current First Aid/ CPR Card, or eligible.
- Positive recommendations and evaluations in past and present jobs.
- Evidence of excellent attendance, punctuality, and dependability; evidence of ability to be self-disciplined and a self-starter.
QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED
- Current industry standard knowledge of AWS D1.1
- Bilingual English/Spanish is desired.
- Experience working with high school age students is preferred.
JOB DESCRIPTION AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Welding Assistant will:
- Work with individual and groups of welding students
- Assist in maintaining a safe working environment
- Maintain health and safety standards for the program.
- Perform all duties of the position within the scope of Kennewick School District policies and procedures, including regular attendance and punctuality.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned by supervisor (Tri-Tech Director.)

The employee is required to taste and smell. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, far vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
Lifting: The employee must be able to lift or move up to 25 lbs. regularly and 25-75 lbs. infrequently.
