JOB DESCRIPTION
Coordinates and assists in the supervision of all functions pertaining to the operation of the transportation department. Assists in the supervision and training of drivers and bus attendants including evaluating drivers and attendants. Works with drivers, attendants, parents and administrative staff on student management.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Must present transcripts of highest level of education within thirty (30) days of hire.
- Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.

- May be required to pass a basic skills test.
- Completion of Safe Schools Web Based Training within thirty (30) days of hire and yearly thereafter.
- Must pass a background check, which includes employee paid fingerprinting.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
- Minimum three years of experience training in an educational setting.
- CDL Class B, passenger endorsement, school bus endorsement, air brake restriction removed.
- Possess a current driver trainer certification through OSPI and renew each year.
- High level of skills in Microsoft Office Suite, including Power Point and evidence of ability to adapt to various software products.
- Experience with student management in a transportation setting (PBIS, Kids At Hope etc.)
- Must uphold board policies and follow administrative procedures.
- Must take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
- Evidence of ability to assess and correct issues involving safety.
- Ability to quickly develop and maintain a tactful, cooperative and effective relationship with students, parents, district staff, co-workers and management.
- Evidence of ability to approach assigned work in a professional manner, working toward the common goal of teamwork, pride in service delivery and continuous improvement.
- Must demonstrate sufficient command of the English language to communicate verbally and in writing with students, parents, district staff members and other concerned people regarding all aspects of their job related activities.
- Experience problem solving with co-workers and students.
- Evidence of the ability to respond quickly in changing situations while staying calm.
- Possesses experience as a school bus driver for the purpose of maintaining driver certification requirements and driving a school bus and/or transportation vehicles (i.e. van/car) while transporting students to/from school and/or other locations in the absence of regular drivers.
- Possesses leadership abilities and experience in teaching, training, and assisting in driver evaluations for the purpose of providing job knowledge, ensuring basic skill levels are met and drivers are in compliance with state school bus driver certification required to meet state certification requirements.
- Must be able to use computer programs to maintain records, enter timecard information and read and respond to email.
- Must be able to create PowerPoint presentations and teach in a positive professional manner.
- Must be able to listen and adapt to constructive feedback.
- Positive evaluations and recommendations that support character and work ethic.
- Excellent attendance, punctuality, dependability, self-discipline, and a self-starter.
QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED
- Previous school bus driving experience, including driving in adverse road and weather conditions.
- Previous experience with coordination and/or supervision of a school transportation operation.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Works with bus drivers, attendants, building administrators and parents on student discipline issues. Communicates with building administrators about student management issues that arise and assists with interviewing students involved in inappropriate bus behaviors as needed.
- Works with bus drivers, building administrators, and parents on resolving discipline issues for the purpose of maintaining consistent behavior expectations.
- Assists in ensuring safe transportation of students and staff who travel on District buses and vehicles.
- Rides on routes to assist with student management assessment and provides training to drivers as needed.
- Provides guidance to drivers on behavioral and disciplinary techniques being used in schools and on buses. Works with school administrators to learn each school’s student management program (PBIS, Kids At Hope, etc.) and then provide training to drivers who transport their students.
- Monitors electronic equipment on buses to ensure they are working properly and views video as needed. Requests to view video may come from drivers, administrators or from parent concerns regarding student behavior on the buses.
- Responds to requests from drivers regarding student management and applies District policies and procedures to the situation. Requests assistance from appropriate administrators to resolve or de-escalate situations.
- Assumes departmental and work related responsibilities in the absence of the Transportation Manager for the purpose of ensuring the continuity of practices as related to the operation and function of transportation procedures.
- Assists Transportation Manager in behind-the-wheel performance evaluation of drivers and substitute drivers for the purpose of ensuring that the basic skill levels are met and are in compliance with District policies and procedures. Retrains drivers in areas of concern when driver is failing to adhere to district policies and procedures, and communicates outcomes with manager.
- Assists in overseeing the training program for new bus drivers, sub drivers and activity drivers.
- Attends meetings, provides trainings, in-services, etc., for the purpose of maintaining driver skills. Ensures that school bus drivers meet certificate requirements.
- Must keep State Driver Trainer Authorization from OSPI current.
- Organizes the annual bus driver in-service and assists the Transportation Manager with staff meetings for the purpose of providing information and knowledge related to Department policies and local and state requirements and laws.
- Coordinates and communicates school bus evacuation drills as required by W.A.C.
- Supports the Transportation Manager with personnel and operational procedures and practices (i.e. contract management, evaluation of drivers etc.) for the purpose of ensuring an effective work environment which efficiently supports the routine functions of the District.
- Substitutes as a school bus driver and/or transportation vehicles (i.e. van/car etc. and performs bus driver activities) for the purpose of transporting passengers over scheduled routes to/from and/or other locations in the absence of available regular drivers/cover drivers/substitute drivers.
- Assists in developing the Department’s extended-range goals for the purpose of planning for long-term needs in accordance the District priorities and operational goals.
- Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of ensuring an efficient and effective work environment.
- Substitutes in Dispatch as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

The employee must be able to communicate effectively in person, over the telephone and by using the radio communications system. The employee is occasionally required to taste and smell. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, far vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
Lifting: The employee must be able to lift or move up to 50-75 pounds or more, dependent on student weight. Must also be able to lift overhead. The employee may be required to physically move quickly in an emergency or while performing student supervision duties.

Physical Hazards: While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts, is driving a moving vehicle and can encounter all types of weather and road hazards. The employee may be exposed to weather extremes, including wet and/or humid conditions, extreme heat or cold or ice conditions. The noise level in this work environment is moderate.
