Job Description:
The Occupational or Physical Therapist will serve disabled students ages 3 to 21 years. Services may be provided directly, indirectly, and on a consultant basis. The role of the therapist is to enhance students’ abilities or enable them to adapt and function in their educational environment. Activities may be designed to develop and/or improve the students functioning in the educational setting in the areas of gross/fine motor skills, self-care skills, muscle skills, endurance, range of motion, processing of basic sensory and motor information; and social/emotional adjustment. The therapist will also recommend adaptive aids, equipment and technology as needed to enable the student to participate more effectively in the educational environment.

Qualifications Required:
1. Washington State License
2. Washington State ESA Certification

3. Satisfactory Evaluations

Qualifications Preferred:
1. Therapy experience with disabled students in a preschool setting preferred.
2. Must demonstrate the following interpersonal and intrapersonal skills in:


    • appreciation of the confidential nature of his/her work
    • flexibility to the demands of the position
    • effective time management skills
    • effective communication skills
    • self-responsibility and decision-making skills
    • ability to work with students and staff in a positive and enthusiastic manner


3. Knowledgeable of Federal and State laws regarding provision of special education services.
4. Training or experience in:


    • various models of service delivery including in-classroom
    • assistive technology
    • teaming and working with other staff in program development
    • writing goals and objectives for individual education programs
    • appropriate OT/PT assessment instruments
    • team assessments.


5. Punctual and consistent attendance.

Responsibilities:
1. Assess and document student skills and determine the need and appropriateness of occupational therapy services.
2. Plan and recommend therapy goals and objectives.
3. Implement and document treatment programs directly or with other staff in carrying out activities to meet treatment goals.
4. Assess and recommend environmental modifications, technology and equipment adaptations to assure accessibility for disabled students in their educational environment.
5. Consult with families and community medical and social service agencies in coordinating services and home programs.
6. Comply with state and federal regulations regarding special education and therapy services.
7. Manage own workload, documentation requirements, workspace and equipment.
8. Initiate and respond to referral requests in conjunction with the educational team.
9. Position requires reliable transportation to travel to various school sites.
10. Perform other duties as assigned.

Mobility: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk for prolonged periods of time, push or pull 50 lbs., sit, kneel and crouch, twist and bend, use hands to type, finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arm.

 

Sense: The employee is required to talk/hear conversations and other sounds. The employee must be able to communicate effectively in person and over the telephone. The employee is required to taste and smell. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, far vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

 

Lifting: The employee must be able to lift or move up to 50 lbs. regularly and occasionally up to 100 lbs; must also be able to lift overhead. The employee may be required to physically move quickly in an emergency or while performing student supervision duties.

Physical Hazards: While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to work outdoors in a wide variety of temperatures; from -10 degrees F to 100 degrees F +. The employee may be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. The noise level in this work environment is moderate.

 

Application Procedure: In-District staff must complete an internal online application by 10:00 p.m. (PST) on or before the closing date. In-building/In-district staff will have eight school days, or eight working days during the summer to apply for a vacant position through the online application system. The employee may choose but will not be required to meet with the building administrator to understand the building practices, procedures and initiatives specific to the position to which they are applying. After eight days if an in-building employee is qualified for the position, the principal will offer the employee the position. In the case that more than one in-building employee is interested in a position, the position will be offered to the qualified and senior employee. If a position is not filled in-building after the eight day period, the position will be offered to the qualified, most senior in-district applicant, if any. Teachers with a summative evaluation score of 1 or 2 are not eligible to transfer unless agreed upon by the District and Association.
