SUBSTITUTE CASHIER

The job of Substitute Cashier for Nutrition Services is to secure funds for daily meal transactions; deposit funds and balance accounts while adhering to accounting practices for monies handled. Substitutes must be available to work on a regular basis and be willing to work in various locations throughout the District.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  1. High School Graduate or equivalent. 
  2. Must present transcripts of highest level of education within thirty (30) days of hire.
  3. Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
  4. Must be able to meet the Physical Demands of the position.
  5. Must pass a basic skills test.
  6. Must pass a background check, which includes employee paid fingerprinting.
  7. Completion the direction of nutrition services personnel at assigned site. of Safe Schools Web Based Training within 30 days of hire.

IF ADDITIONAL SUB PARAEDUCATOR HOURS ARE DESIRED, AA DEGREE OR EQUIVALENT IS REQUIRED.

 

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

  1. Must uphold board policies and follow administrative procedures.
  2. Must take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
  3. Skills to perform basic math calculations, communicate effectively, use standard office equipment including calculator and computers.
  4. Knowledge of basic cash handling procedures.
  5. Must attend in-service trainings or other meetings as required, as well as attend any training as directed by management.
  6. Evidence of ability to assess and correct issues involving safety.
  7. Evidence of ability to establish and maintain a tactful, cooperative and effective relationship with students, parents, staff, fellow employees and management.
  8. Evidence of ability to approach assigned work in a professional manner, working toward the common goal of teamwork, pride in service delivery and continuous improvement
  9. Must demonstrate sufficient command of the English language to communicate verbally and in writing with students, parents, district staff members and other concerned people regarding all aspects of their job related activities.
  10. Must be able to use basic computer programs to maintain records, enter timecard information and read and respond to email.

QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED

  1. Prior job related experience.
  2. Knowledge of National School Lunch Program, regulations, health codes and sanitation principles.
  3. Food Handler’s permit.
  4. Positive evaluations and recommendations that support character and work ethic.
  5. Excellent attendance, punctuality, dependability, self-disciplined, and a self-starter.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  1. Collects payments (e.g. cash or meal card) for the purpose of completing meal transactions.
  2. Prepares documentation for the purpose of providing written support and/or conveying information.
  3. Reconciles transactions for the purpose of balancing accounts and adhering to accounting practices.
  4. Responds to inquiries of students, staff and the public for the purpose of providing information and/or direction regarding the type and/or cost of meals.
  5. Supervises student customers for the purpose of maintaining proper lunchroom behavior.
  6. Communicates in an effective manner concerning customer service, food quality, National School Lunch and Breakfast Program for the purpose of providing information and/or direction.
  7. Works cooperatively and collaboratively with students, staff, and the general public.
  8. Performs all duties of the position within the scope of Kennewick School District policies and procedures, including regular attendance and punctuality.
  9. Assists other personnel and/or student workers as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in completion of their work activities.
  10. May be required to perform duties of a school paraeducator as directed by the principal, such as recess or classroom duties.

  • Mobility: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk for prolonged periods of time, push or pull 18-26 lbs, sit, kneel and crouch, twist and bend,  use hands to type, finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arm.
  • Sense: The employee is required to talk/hear conversations and other sounds. The employee must be able to communicate effectively in person and over the telephone. The employee is required to taste and smell. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, far vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Lifting: The employee must be able to lift or move up to 50 pounds; must also be able to lift overhead. The employee may be required to physically move quickly in an emergency or while performing student supervision duties.

  • Physical Hazards: While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to work in a wide variety of temperatures; from -10 degrees F to 100 degrees F +. The employee may work near moving mechanical parts. The employee may be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. The noise level in this work environment is moderate.
