Reports To: Director of Special Services

Hours: 8 Hours per Day (7:30 A.M. – 4:30 P.M.), 200 Days per Year

Salary: $71,174 – $90,580 DOE

 

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Behavior Specialist is responsible for the assessment and analysis of instructional and behavior programs, curriculum modification, data analysis, and functional analysis of behaviors for our students (preschool to age 21). The BCBA conducts formal assessments and assists the IEP team with the development of individualized education plan goals and behavior intervention plans. The BCBA will be able to model specific strategy recommendations and evaluate the effectiveness implementation of these strategies within a collaborative coaching environment. The BCBA will lead and participate in staff and parent training to assist those groups with the development of skills and strategies to address problematic student behavior. This person will also participate as a member of an intervention team, providing training and supervision to a team of paraeducators who will assist in providing staff and student support in the implementation of individual student programs, while assisting Special Education administrators with program development and improvement.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  1. Master's Degree or higher in related field of study.
  2. Current certification in good standing with the Behavior Analyst Certification Board as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA).
  3. Must present transcripts of highest level of education within thirty (30) days of hire.
  4. Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
  5. Must be able to meet the Physical Demands of the position.
  6. Must pass a basic skills test.
  7. Completion of Safe Schools Web Based Training within thirty (30) days of hire and yearly thereafter.
  8. Must pass a background check, which includes employee paid fingerprinting.
  9. Must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or have received approved exemption by October 18, 2021.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

 

  1. Master's Degree or higher in related field of study.
  2. Current certification in good standing with the Behavior Analyst Certification Board as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA).
  3. Possess at least 3 years of experience working with students in an educational setting.
  4. Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities including but not limited to Autism, EBD, Intellectual Disability, Health Impaired and Learning Disabilities from preschool to age 21. 
  5. Experience planning and conducting professional development/training.
  6. Training or willing to be trained to be a Crisis Prevention and Intervention Trainer.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

 

  1. Experience supervising and/or evaluating employees.
  2. Bilingual English/Spanish.
  3. Experience and/or training with computer technology and ability to assist staff with computer operations and data entry to maintain records, enter timecard information and read and respond to email.
  4. Effectively communicates and develops relationship with students, teachers, administrators, parents and public.
  5. Able to work with interruptions while balancing daily responsibilities.
  6. Evidence of ability to be a self-starter.
  7. Punctual and consistent attendance.
  8. Demonstrated leadership and project organizational skills (planning, implementing, evaluating).
  9. Ability to work collaboratively with various groups and gain consensus related to project implementation and other problem solving.
  10. Experience conducting comprehensive functional behavior assessments (FBA's).  
  11. Experience in data-based decision making.
  12. Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills and ability to establish rapport with individuals, teams, and groups (teachers, parents, administrators and support staff).

 

DESCRIPTION OF JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  1. Provide behavioral consultation and services to student’s district-wide (preschool to age 21). 
  2. Conduct Functional Analysis Assessments and collaborate with school staff in the development of Positive Behavior Intervention Plan (PBIP).
  3. Provide consultations to educators regarding the behavioral needs of students including behavioral management techniques and crisis prevention.
  4. Provide coordinated behavioral analysis of students experiencing academic impact due to a suspected or confirmed behavioral disability. 
  5. Assist building teams and individual providers in the development of data collection systems.
  6. Compile and analyze behavior data to assess needs, set goals, and monitor progress.
  7. Participate in the development of crisis and/or safety plans.  
  8. Report the results of data collection to individual IEP teams to assist in identification of student need and determine program modifications to address these needs.
  9. Work with building teams to develop individual student behavior plans.
  10. Work with building teams to monitor the implementation of individual student behavior plans.
  11. Work with individual students in crisis.
  12. Participate in the hiring, training and supervision of the paraeducator intervention team.
  13. Participate in pre-assessment activities and complete and coordinate behavioral assessments for individual students as referred.
  14. Provide evaluative feedback to teachers, paraeducators and administrators regarding implementation of recommended strategies and accommodations for students.
  15. Work with Special Education administrators to develop and improve program and service options for students with disabilities throughout the District.
  16. Assist families with identifying and accessing community-based agencies to strengthen student support and services. 
  17. Comply with Federal, State and Local Board policies and follow administrative procedures.
  18. Maintain knowledge of best practices and laws governing behavioral supports for students with disabilities.
  19. Attend in-service trainings and complete all other job required trainings as required.
  20. Ability to creatively solve problems and work through the conflict resolution process.
  21. Maintain confidentiality of staff and student information.
  22. Perform other duties as assigned.
