Location: Administration Center

Hours: 8 Hours per Day, 200 Days per Year – Work hours will vary and will include work time during the evenings and on Saturdays when classes are in session. Contract may increase up to 10 days per year depending on program needs.

Salary Range: $40,972 – $47,105 (DOE)

 

This is an off-schedule, non-bargaining position.

 

JOB DESCRIPTION

As the Community Education Coordinator, you will be providing our community members with a variety of learning opportunities during evening and Saturday classes. For more than 30 years, Kennewick Community Education has provided classes to learn new hobbies, upgrade skills for today’s job market, meet new people, and improve health and wellness.

The coordinator is responsible for all aspects of overseeing the program. Highlights include recruiting new instructors and maintaining good relations with existing instructors, ensuring community members have a positive experience related to the program, coordinating class schedules and locations, developing creative class content, and designing and organizing social media posts and publications.

 

We seek an individual who has strong organizational, communication, marketing and leadership skills, exhibits a desire to give others a great customer service experience, and has the confidence and ability to problem solve for immediate solutions.

Work hours may fluctuate when classes are in session depending on evening and weekend needs. Class scheduling allows for time off during holiday breaks and summer.

Start date and schedule will be determined upon hiring.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

 

  1. High School Diploma or equivalent.
  2. Must present transcripts of highest level of education within thirty (30) days of hire, if applicable.
  3. Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
  4. Must be able to meet the Physical Demands of the position.
  5. May be required to pass a skills test.
  6. Completion of Safe Schools Web Based Training within thirty (30) days of hire and yearly thereafter.
  7. Must pass a background check, which includes employee paid fingerprinting.
  8. Must possess a valid Washington State Driver’s License and clean driving record.
  9. Must present proof of auto insurance at time of employment and maintain coverage through employment.

 

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

 

  1. Ability to plan and organize activities, events and/or classes.
  2. Experience in marketing, promoting and advertising.
  3. Advanced customer service skills and ability to positively and effectively communicate with customers and staff members by telephone and in person.
  4. Ability to develop a financial plan and work within an established budget.
  5. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software programs, especially Word, Excel and Outlook.
  6. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  7. Ability to problem solve with customers and staff members.
  8. Recommendations that confirm dependability, flexibility, loyalty and self-starting capabilities.
  9. Evidence of excellent attendance, punctuality and dependability; evidence of ability to be self-disciplined and a self-starter.
  10. Ability and willingness to regularly lift up to 50 pounds according to established safety procedures.
  11. Ability and willingness to use a hand truck and utility carts for materials handling according to established safety procedures.
  12. Ability and willingness to travel between school sites and event locations.
  13. Must have dependable transportation.
  14. Evening and weekend work required.

 

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

 

  1. Associate or Bachelor degree in related field.
  2. Experience in recruiting, hiring, training, evaluating and selecting staff.
  3. Previous event management or professional development/training experience.
  4. Social media and website content development and management experience.
  5. Working knowledge of Adobe software.
  6. Email marketing and digital survey tool experience.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  1. Coordinate and manage all aspects of the Community Education program.
  2. Continually develop new, creative class ideas while maintaining a core offering of classes that are consistently in demand.
  3. Recruit, hire, and supervise volunteer instructors for the program.
  4. Write class descriptions and develop a class calendar of offerings.
  5. Develop content to produce two class catalogs each year. Assist graphic designer with photo and graphic selection and establishing print deadlines.
  6. Develop and implement a catalog distribution plan.
  7. Manage and upload class content using class management tool.
  8. Manage and ensure fiscal responsibility of department budget.
  9. Promote online registration and provide support for customers by phone and in person.
  10. Set up and troubleshoot classroom technology, including audio visual and computer equipment.
  11. Assist instructors preparing and cleaning up classes as needed
  12. Implement customer feedback surveys after each class and follow up with instructors on results
  13. Work to accomplish program goals with the Community Education Secretary by directing work and deadlines.
  14. Assist the Executive Director of Communications & Public Relations Direct in evaluating the work of the Community Education Secretary by providing feedback.
  15. Travel frequently to different school sites and class locations
  16. Direct work of Community Education Secretary and assist the Executive Director of Communications and Public Relations in evaluation
  17. Perform all duties of the position within the scope of Kennewick School District policies and procedures, including regular attendance and punctuality
  18. Perform other duties as assigned.
